If I could save one book, what would it be?

If I were to save only one book for future generations I think I would do the same as Eli did; in The Book of Eli. Having the Bible would be the most important book in my personal opinion. There are many great books that have been created by people throughout the years, but having a Bible present would be the best one. If there were a total destruction of the world and it was remade with only one book surviving the Bible would be able to tell the future how everything started. Also if this was the only book to survive, then maybe people would want to read it and further understand everything. However I do not feel that the Bible would appeal to everybody, so it would be nice if maybe two books could be saved. In this case I would also save The Grapes of Wrath. This book is also about everything falling apart and then being rebuilt, but in a different way. Society took a downhill plunge when the stock market crashed and people lost a lot of their belongings and would do anything to survive; just like in The Book of Eli. Having the book The Grapes of Wrath people would still be able to see how the world is recreated, but in a completely different way. This book and the movie have two different stories to tell, but in a way they are all the same. My number one choice would be the Bible, but my second would be The Grapes of Wrath.

What are your likes and dislikes about Halloween?

I really like Halloween, I think it is really fun to get dressed up in something crazy and just go out and have fun. Halloween now, is much different than it was when I was growing up. As a kid I did go trick or treating, and I was always very excited to go out with my friends and get candy. Writing this blog, really reminds me of some great times. My best friend Kristin lives right behind my house, and we grew up together. Every Halloween Kristin and I and our siblings and parents would go trick or treating together. One Halloween Kristin dressed up as a cowgirl, and I was a horse. When I think about it now, I think we were really silly and I wonder why I was the horse?! Why weren’t we both cowgirls? But when we did this we thought we were so cool. Please keep in mind we were probably like ten or something, so basically we were just dorks. But it gives me a great memory so I can’t complain. Unfortunately I do not have a picture here at school, of these goofy outfits, because if I did I would upload it in a heartbeat. It is one of those old pictures, that you will get mad if your parents show somebody, but really you know that it is a really funny picture. Thinking back makes me want to be a kid again, so I can go trick or treating one more time!

If there was anything I could change about WSU, what would it be?

If I could choose anything to change about Wright State University, I would give the university more major choices. I am currently going through a little phase and I don’t know what I want to major in anymore. As of right now I am a nursing intent, but I think I want to change to radiology, respiratory therapy or athletic training. Well Wright State only offers one of my possible options besides nursing and that is athletic training. When I look at all the majors WSU does offer, I can’t seem to find one that really interests me. However, I don’t think that WSU is really the problem; I would say it is me. It is really hard to know what you want to do the rest of your life, and I am just second guessing myself. I don’t want to transfer schools because overall I really like Wright State, but if I do decide to change my major I would have to transfer to a different school.
Another thing that I might change at Wright State would be the academic advisors. They are very nice, but when you go there they only tell you what you already know. To me academic advisors are supposed to help you, and I have never been helped. I have only been told what I can’t do, and I think that is what is kind of helping me feel like I don’t want to do nursing anymore. If I am not mistaking, many students here at WSU have the same problem and most of them dislike their advisors. As I said before, they are very nice, but they don’t really help at all.

The process of revision

The process of revision is a very long and sometimes stressful one. Whenever I first turn in a paper, I always feel like it is pretty decent but I know that there is always room for improvement. After turning in my paper, and getting the feedback, I can really see what I need to improve on. When it is time to go through the revision process, it can be very stressful. Sometimes I feel like, my first product was completely wrong and I will get the brilliant idea to completely re-write my whole paper. Clearly this is not the answer and makes the situation so much more stressful! All you really need to do is look at your very first product, and then look at the comments on the side of your paper. While keeping in mind that the comments are only constructive criticism and you don’t have to make those changes. They are only suggestions; however they are normally the right suggestions. I think the drafting process is a great process. Having many different revisions can really show how you have improved as a writer. I think that you cannot only revise a paper one time, and think you have the best product you can do. The more you revise, they better the product. When you come to the point of revision when you really don’t think it could improve anymore, you know you have reached the final product.  The revision process really does make a difference to me. I think that after I get comments back on my paper, I can than really submit my best product for that point and time.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec rhetorical situations

It seems as if most of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings show male figures being dominant over women. In the picture below a man and woman are engaged in sexual intercourse, and the male figure is on top of the woman, showing his dominance. I think the purpose of this painting is to show, no matter what time era it is, woman always seem to be the vulnerable figure. Men have always been seen as the protector and very masculine where women are usually shown as being very feminine and reliant on men. The attended audience, for this particular painting would be a more mature audience. I think that the audience age would possibly start at high school seniors. The only reason I say this is because I kind of feel like anyone younger than that may not be able to analyze this painting for everything that it is. I am unsure what the genre would be, I don’t know if the genre is a painting or if it would be a painting on the internet. The painting could have been originally featured in another form such as in a magazine article, or something.  So I am not really positive what I would say this particular genre is. I would say the author’s stance on this painting, would possibly be that he agrees with the dominant role that men play. The woman has her arms wrapped around the man, and is below him. The man is just on top of her, and not wrapping his arms around her. Instead his arms are bent; keeping him from getting to close. The background color is red, so that kind of sets the mood in the painting. The media and design is print, because it is a painting

Would children become healthier, smarter and more independent if they grew up with no televison?

When I was growing up my parents had a hell of a time getting me to stay inside. I was always outside from the moment I woke up until I absolutely had to come in. I loved playing outside and till this day I still love being outside! I think what got me started on the whole, play outside ordeal was when I was growing up during the summer my parents would tell me and my sister to go play outside, sitting inside playing videogames was never an option. We became to absolutely love it and then they had to start telling us when to come back in. Playing outside really spruces up your imagination; one of the things that stick out right now, is climbing a huge pine tree and pretending it was a secret hide out. A few of the neighborhood kids and I even had fire evacuation plans. If the tree were ever to catch on fire we would simply slide down its branches.  I think that parents should make their kids play outside more often. When kids stay inside all day and play videogames and have no physical activity they learn to become lazy. They start to believe it is okay to sit around and do nothing all day, and it’s really not okay. I think that playing videogames is not a terrible thing to do, as long as you don’t abuse it. I prefer playing outside way more than being stuck in the house. Playing outside brings a whole nether level to your imagination; and you can do anything you want.  Also playing outside could make for a healthier life style, because you are exercising. At least when I think back to when I was a kid I know I was; running around the yard all day long. It is just an overall better experience of life, if you life a healthy lifestyle and don’t waste your life away sitting in front of the television all day long.

Advertising As We Know It

Advertisements are everywhere we look, and they influence us on what products to purchase or what activities we should do. Unconsciously we pay attention to these ads that appear in newspapers, magazines and on billboards and on television. Just even seeing someone drinking a can of Mountain Dew is a form of advertising. Without advertising we would not know what the new and improved products are. I think that advertising is good to a certain extent. I think that once it starts controlling the way we think then we have a problem. Now days that is exactly what is happening. Whenever we are sitting on the couch watching t.v. and see the new sandwich that McDonalds is advertising and then the next time we go out, we stop at McDonalds to get that new sandwich. I know personally this has happened to me, one time I was craving ice cream and I didn’t have any at my apartment, and then I saw a commercial for Sonic and they were talking about ice cream; so I actually left my apartment and went to Sonic, just because of that commercial. The ice cream looked so good, that I had to leave and go get some. This is the control that I mentioned earlier, just because I seen a commercial I got up and left for Sonic just to get some ice cream. Advertisements influence us more than what we think and no matter what anyone says; everybody has been controlled at one point in their life by an advertisement that they saw.
